What Can the MatataXplore Optics App Do? Bird ID, Live View, Remote Capture and More
The Solvia 8x32 is built to work independently in the field. It provides on-device bird identification, photo and video capture, and a built-in touchscreen without requiring a phone or internet connection. Connect it to the MatataXplore Optics app, and you can access live view, remote controls, media downloads, and broader cloud recognition.
The MatataXplore Optics app is the companion platform for the Solvia 8x32, connecting via Wi-Fi to extend what the binoculars can do. From cloud-based recognition for plants and animals to live view sharing and media management, this guide covers everything the app adds to your field experience.
How the MatataXplore Optics App Connects to the Solvia 8x32
The app pairs with the Solvia 8x32 over Wi-Fi direct, establishing a connection between the binoculars and your phone or tablet without needing a router or mobile data. Once connected, your phone becomes a second screen and control interface for the device.
Connection takes a few steps on first use and the Solvia tutorial video on our YouTube channel walks through it in full. Once set up, the app and the binoculars work as one integrated system.
Can the MatataXplore Optics App Identify Birds?
There are two ways to identify birds with the Solvia 8x32 and the MatataXplore Optics app.
The first is on-device bird recognition. This happens directly on the Solvia 8x32 and works completely offline. You do not need an internet connection, and the app does not need to be open or connected. Point at a bird, press the identification button, and the result appears on the 2.8-inch touchscreen in under 2 seconds. The system covers more than 10,000 bird species and can reach up to 98% accuracy under good conditions.
The second option is saved-photo identification through the app. You can select a photo downloaded from the Solvia or an image already saved on your phone and submit it for recognition. This method uses cloud processing, so your phone needs internet access. The result is then categorized and stored with your other recognition records.
This gives you fast offline bird identification while using the binoculars and another way to review saved photos later.
What the MatataXplore Optics App Adds
Cloud Recognition for Plants, Animals and Landmarks
While the Solvia focuses on fast, on-device bird identification, the MatataXplore Optics app can run recognition on saved images. These may include photos transferred from the Solvia or pictures already stored on your phone.
Cloud recognition expands the experience beyond birds to plants, animals, insects and landmarks. When your phone has internet access, select a saved image in the app to receive additional identification information. Recognition records are automatically categorized and stored for later review.
This means you can identify a bird directly on the Solvia, then use the app to examine a plant, insect or other subject photographed during the same outing.
Live View Sharing
One of the most popular features in the app is live view sharing. When the Solvia is connected to your phone, the app displays the Solvia camera's live view in real time. When the Solvia is connected to the app, a phone or tablet can display the camera's live view in real time. This makes it easier to share a sighting with a friend, family member, or another person in your group.
This changes how you bird with other people. Instead of describing where to look or passing the binoculars around, you simply point and everyone sees it. It is particularly useful for guided birding walks, family outings and any situation where you want to share a moment without interrupting it.
Media Download and Management
Photos and videos captured on the Solvia are stored on the SD card. Through the MatataXplore Optics app you can download these files directly to your phone over Wi-Fi, manage your gallery, run cloud recognition on saved images, and share content to social platforms with one tap.
The app also keeps identification records organized and searchable, so you can build a personal archive of every bird, plant or animal you have encountered with the Solvia.
The Full Observe–Identify–Capture–Share Workflow
The MatataXplore Optics app is designed around a four-step field workflow:
Observe: Look through the Solvia's ED glass optics with a 7.6-degree field of view. The 2.8-inch touchscreen shows a live view of what the camera is seeing.
Identify: Press the identification button for on-device bird recognition in under 2 seconds. For plants, animals and landmarks, save the photo and use cloud recognition through the app.
Capture: Take 5MP photos and videos through the built-in camera. Electronic Image Stabilization helps reduce shake during handheld video recording, and files are saved to the microSD card.
Share: Download your files to your phone, then share them with friends, your birding community, or your preferred social platform.
Solvia handles observation, bird identification, and capture on the device. The app adds easier media organization, broader recognition, live viewing, remote control, and sharing from your phone.
Practical Tips for Getting the Most Out of the App
Download the app before your first session. Available on iOS and Android. Search MatataXplore Optics in the App Store or Google Play.
Complete the initial Solvia setup and camera calibration before your first field session. Correct calibration helps the captured image stay properly aligned and focused.
Use on-device bird ID in the field, cloud recognition back at camp. You do not need signal for the core bird identification experience. Save unusual plants or animals as photos and run cloud recognition when you are back in range.
Keep both devices charged for long sessions. The Solvia runs for 9 to 12 hours in standard use. Live sharing and continuous app use will draw on your phone battery too, so plan accordingly for full-day trips.
Use live sharing for group birding. If you are leading a walk or birding with family, connecting everyone to the live view is one of the simplest ways to make the experience more shared and engaging.
